Procedures for Range Use During the Covid-19 Restrictions

Kirlish Rifle and Pistol Club has developed the following precautions, in addition to the already well-established range procedures, to mitigate the risk of exposure to the Covid-19 virus to members and range staff whilst using range facilities.

Travel to and from the range / Who can attend

  • If you are feeling unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms please do not visit the range facility, no matter how mild the symptoms – please keep yourself and other club members safe.
  • Please travel alone or only with persons from your household – do not travel with other members.
  • Only members can participate in target shooting – unfortunately guests are not permitted to shoot at this time.
  • Only one person is permitted on the firing point at any time, therefore probationary training or coaching is not permitted.

Book your shooting

  • The Club will operate a booking system to minimise the number of people at the range facility at any one time and to maximise the numbers of people that can attend the range event.
  • All range use must be pre-booked via telephone - to book a slot; please telephone 07753 602632 and a time will be allocated to you (Baronscourt range only). Please state your preference (Rifle / Pistol).
  • Cut off date for booking for each range date will be 5 days prior to the event - this date will be indicated in the email notifications sent to members.
  • A rifle slot will have a maximum duration of 30 minutes. A pistol slot will have a maximum duration of 30 minutes. (Baronscourt range)(Time slots may be adjusted for Saturday range dates depending on demand).
  • If you fail to arrive on time for the start of your allocated time you will not receive your full range slot.
  • If you fail to arrive within a reasonable time your allocated time may be given to someone on standby – you will then go on standby with no guarantee of an alternative time being granted.
  • Only named individuals will be permitted to shoot.

Upon arrival

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your booking slot and remain in your vehicle until called by the range staff.
  • You should leave sufficient room around your vehicle to maintain social distancing.
  • Social distancing is to be observed at all times – please maintain a distance of 2 metres.
  • When entering the range, you must sanitise your hands – you may wear gloves and a mask as long as it does not hinder the use of safety glasses and hearing protection. Hand sanitiser and disposable gloves will be provided.

On the firing point

  • The Club will operate the 100m rifle range (5 firing points) and the pistol range (3 firing points)(Baronscourt).
  • Only the RCO, required range staff and those with booked slots will be allowed on the firing points.
  • The range door (rifle range) will remain open.
  • You must use breech flags in all firearms – if you do not have breech flags they can be purchased from the Club (£2.50 each or 5 for £10 – please have the correct change/money with you).
  • You must bring your own equipment including mats – you must not share equipment.
  • The range attendance register will be completed for you – you will not be required to sign in.
  • Targets will be provided and range staff will change targets. You must not approach the target area.
  • The RCO will arrange placement and retrieval of targets at the beginning, during and end of each slot.
  • Any problems on the firing point should be identified to the range staff/RCO.
  • In the event of a fault in equipment – you must bring this to the attention of the range staff. The RCO may halt firing or summon assistance when the detail is finished. Please follow the RCOs instruction – you may be asked to unload, show clear, fit breech flag and move away from the equipment whilst it is being repaired or adjusted. No additional time will be added to your booking slot.
  • In the event of a firearm fault or malfunction – the firearm is to be made as safe as possible, laid flat pointing at the target, and request the assistance of the RCO. No additional time will be added to your booking slot.

End of session

  • At the end of your allocated time – the member will present all firearms for checking to enable the RCO to clear the firearm – the firearm, upon instruction will be boxed.
  • The member will tidy away all equipment, pick up spent brass and dispose of it in a prompt manner.
  • When the RCO is happy to proceed – please vacate the firing point promptly remembering to maintain social distancing.
  • Once clear of the firing point – dispose of any gloves or PPE in the bins provided, sanitise your hands and proceed to your vehicle and promptly leave the facility.

These additional regulations have been adopted by the Committee to ensure your safety

and that of your fellow members – please observe them at all times. The Club appreciates your cooperation.
